Before beginning his illustrious career at Transnet Pipelines, Sibongiseni was the Managing Director of Engen Malawi from December 2010 to October 2013. Here, he managed the fourth largest petroleum company in Malawi, overseeing the importation, storage, distribution, and retailing of petroleum products.

His responsibilities included human resources development, financial management, HSEQ, stakeholder engagement, facilities operations, commercial and retail performance, and market share growth. He also served as Director of Engen Limited Malawi and Petroleum Importers Limited, overseeing 95% of fuel importation to Malawi. His career also includes various junior and management roles at Engen and Sasol.
